Advanced Usage

Using Third-Party API Keys

Some tools use external services like AI APIs, cloud storage, or rendering services. PegBoard lets you securely store API keys on your local machine so tools can access them when needed.

Setting Up API Keys

  1. Open PegBoard → Click the Settings icon (⚙️) in the top right
  2. Navigate to API Tokens section
  3. Click "Add Token"
  4. Enter the token details:
    • Token Name: A unique identifier for your API key (e.g., gemini_api_key, openai_api_key)
    • Token Value: Your actual API key from the service provider
  5. Click "Save"

Your API keys are stored securely on your local machine and are available to all your tools.

How Tools Use API Keys

Once you've added an API key, any tool that needs it can access it automatically. For example, an AI rendering tool might ask you to add a gemini_api_key, which it will then use to generate photorealistic images.

The tool will let you know if it needs an API key and what to name it in Settings.

For Developers

If you're creating tools that use API keys, see the Developer Guide for code examples and implementation details.
